Abstract

The low level of reading comprehension skills among elementary school students highlights the need for interactive, contextual, and learner-oriented learning media in the digital era. This study aims to develop an interactive digital Flipbook based on the Watu Blorok folk tale that is valid, practical, and effective in improving the reading comprehension skills of fifth-grade elementary school students. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research was conducted at SDN Pucuk 1, Mojokerto Regency, during the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The subjects included three validators (subject-matter, media, and language experts), one fifth-grade teacher, and 20 fifth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, documentation, and tests, and analyzed using descriptive analysis, N-Gain, and a Paired-Samples t-test. The results showed very high validity scores of 92.60% from the subject-matter expert, 94.20% from the media expert, and 92.00% from the language expert, with an overall average of 92.93% (very valid). The practicality score reached 94.13% (very practical). Effectiveness testing showed an increase in the mean score from 63.40 on the pretest to 84.20 on the posttest, with an N-Gain score of 0.72 (high). The Paired-Samples t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference before and after media use. Thus, the interactive digital Flipbook based on the Watu Blorok folk tale is valid, practical, and effective for improving elementary school students' reading comprehension skills.
